Get the most of your massage!
Whether you have a massage to maintain your general wellness or to address a specific issue, there are certain tips that will make your experience more enjoyable and allow you to get the most from the treatment.
The most important one is communication. Prior to the treatment itself, the therapist will ask you a number of questions about your health, lifestyle, reason and expectations of the massage. If you think that the questions did not cover something that you feel is important please let the therapist now. Communication is equally important during the massage itself, especially if the therapist is performing trigger point therapy, which is dependent on the right amount of pressure. Please remember that nobody can feel your body better than you, so do not hesitate to give feedback!
Please do not eat just before the massage session. You may need to spend an hour lying on your front, and a full stomach may make this experience rather uncomfortable.
Please be on time! It may take you longer to relax if you come in a hurry, and the time of your booked session may be shortened to accommodate the next booking.
During the massage itself, try to be as relaxed as possible and maintain your normal pace of breathing. People often stop breathing when they feel pain in sensitive areas, which may be counter-productive. Communicate any pain to your therapist because typically this means that the technique the therapist is using may need to be altered.
Do not get off the table too quickly as you may be dizzy or lightheaded. Give yourself a minute and the dizziness should pass within a couple of minutes.
Please remember to drink extra amounts of water. Your body will need nourishing and hydration!
The therapeutic affects of a massage are cumulative, so the more often you have a massage, the better you will feel and the more quickly your body will respond. So, in consultation with your therapist, be prepared to schedule further sessions as massage has its greatest benefits over time.
